Day 72,73 - Installed homemade drawers/stain
Installed the drawers I made last week. They came out great. I wouldn't call it quality work but they will suffice. The sliders I got for them (bought on the internet) are very strong. They can hold 100 pounds. They installed a lot faster than I thought. Good thing because this weekend is touch up paint and installed oak molding. Really getting down to the wire. Painting the cabinet doors is on the agenda for this weekend too but we need to clean house because we are getting company staying over for two weeks and there coming from Britain. Here's a picture of todays work. The larger drawers are for pots and pans. Donna is already decorating with carpets.

Day 69-71 - Wood floor is done!!
So I alloted a whole weekend (three days) for installing the floor and that's how long it took. The wood floor will be expanded into the rest of the first floor this coming fall but for now it will be in the kitchen only. LOOKS GREAT!! Donna's favorite part she says. I guess it beats the diamond shape tiles over the butcher block.

So I'm planning on two more weekends which includes working on the weekdays in between. There's just a lot of little things to be done. Istalling painted homemade doors and installing the lower slide out drawers for pots and pans and the pantry.

Day 68 - Wood floor install
So I started intalling the floor today and it seems to be going slow because I've never done this type of work before. I've made a few mistakes that is nothing that is fixable or already fixed but the most time consuming thing was starting the first row and making sure it is straight After that, cutting wood for the end pieces against the wall takes time as well as making sure each and every board is snug against each other.

So far everything looks great. Just wish I had it done already. Going on 3 months now. Time to start the garden and this project is running into others now. Just keep plugging away everyday till it's done. I am now looking at maybe somewhere around 2 weeks left. After the floor, there are not BIG things to do. Just touch up, staining, little bit of paint, and molding. Nearing the end.

Day 67 - Flooring preparation
Moving along quickly now. I'd like t get everything done in two weeks. Today was the start of laying the new flooring. I've got a whole day to get it done tomorrow and wanted to get everything prepared by Friday. I met that goal. Hopefully it won't take the whole weekend to get the floor down. This is something I've never done but have asked a lot of people for advice and checked the internet on how to. So I know what the pitfalls could be and hopefully I can avoid them. Here's some pics from today. New paint and a somewhat of a dry fit of the floor. By the way, this is real 3/4 inch prefinished wood and not the cheap Pergo stuff.

Day 65,66 - Chop up tile/Paint
Getting ready for wood floors today. Want to get it installed this weekend. So preparing ahead of time will help. Also it's a better to paint the walls not to worry about getting it on the new floors. Tile came up easy with a hammer and you can see the 1970's floor underneath. It's matched the color scheme now. Donna thinks the 1970's floor is really ugly. The paint color is an off white which does not show up that well in the photo.
