Moved the soffit back above the cabinet near the door entrance to the garage. I followed what was there already in the past but it just didn't look right. The next few days will be a lot of sanding a prepping for paint (finally).

( 3 / 64 )Today was about an hour and a halfs worth of work on the kitchen. Decided to put a power plug for the little appliance shelf and had to move the garage light switch to the inside of the garage. The switch was right in the edge of the first tile for the backsplash. Look to the right lower side of the picture near the door handle to the garage. I have a drywall patch on it right now. The other photo is the wall on the other side of the kitchen. So now when you go into the garage you have to hit the switch on the other side of the wall. No big deal and it was Donna's idea after I stared at it for 20 minutes figuring how I was going to make the light switch work with the backsplash.

( 2.9 / 63 )Put the extra layer of 1/2 plywood on the counter tops for the backsplash to under cabinets matchup. Added the shelf for the small appliances and also built up the frame around the refrige cabinet to match up with the rest of the cabinets. It's time to put the saws away and break out the spackle and paint. All the structural stuff is done except for some miner things. Hopefully I can paint primer on everything by next weekend and only if the weather is nice. Pot filler faucet has been ordered over the Internet and is on it's way. Need it before I officially connect the piping for it down in the basement. Whew! Weekend number 4 and 3 weeks total. I think about another 3 weeks but that's not counting floor install.

( 3 / 54 )Now it looks like I'm getting somewhere. I like these days. Finished the cabinet. Building from scratch takes a long time and a lot of thinking to make it look good. Even though I had it down on paper. Some re-do's had to be done so that's why it took a day and a half. Also made the shelf for the coffee pot and small toaster oven. So it looks like I'm getting ever closer to sanding and primer paint.
A few unexpected situations with this project:
The tile backsplash is short by 1/2 inch to the bottom of the cabinets. Have to add 1/2 inch plywood to the counter tops so that I don't have to cut the backsplash tile. We like the taller counters anyway.
Wanted to make a special water filler for the coffee pot that will be put on the shelf. Use old ice maker (from old refrige) water filler valve. Put that on hold till another day
Wanted to put another light above the coffee pot shelf but decided it was not needed.
So far the guess for cost is running somewhere around $2200.00 and counting up to somewhere around $3000.00. No hard numbers yet. This includes tools/refrige/sink/garbage disposel/wood/butcher block/screws and odds and ends. Wood floors are not included in the budget but money has been found for them. They are real wood floors and not the fake pergo stuff. They will cost somewhere around $550 for supplies with me installing.
The drawer under the butcher block will be a knife drawer made from scratch.

( 2.9 / 56 )Feels like this was a slow day today. Photos are of the cabinet around the new refrige and some spackle finally on the walls. Tomorrow I'll make the frame front for the cabinet. Oh yeah, also ran a pipe down the the basement for a water connection for the Pot Filler faucet. Didn't connect the water yet though.
