Day 16 - Paint Stripper

This stuff is nasty. Got it on my skin and it burns instantly. Had gloves on but no long sleeves. The paint came off easy. I thought it would take off the varnish underneath the paint too but it didn't (would have been nice). I'll just sand everything down but no need to take the dark varnish off since it is just getting painted again. Only did about 3/4 of the the cabinets because the smell was getting to me. Yes, I did have the window open with a space heater running. The place is a mess. Should start shaping up here soon. Maybe another week or so before some primer paint.

Day 15 - Still on the cabinets

Today (or should I say yesterday) was just putting in the cabinet above the stove. I bought a premade one because the new one is smaller in height so that the microwave can fit under the cabinet above the stove. I little easier to buy one than to make one ($52). Saves a lot of time. A lot involved with this since the microwave has a template for the holes to put in the bottom of the cabinet and power has to be installed too as well as to match up the air vent at the top.

Day 14 - Not much

Does not look like I did anything this weekend and I took a day off yesterday (sunday). Maybe after work today I can get the new cabinet done over the stove. Have to cut holes in the cabinet for the over the stove microwave air vent. Everything is brand new above the stove including the vent pipe up to the roof. After that, I've got to build an enclosure (cabinet) around the new small refrige and make is sturdy enough for a butcher block. Most of the structural stuff is done. From now on, things should change dramatically because it's all the surface stuff that gets put back in. Oh yeah, my work table outside is covered in 1 inch of snow and still snowing. Oh, well.

Day 13 - Finished sheetrock

Thought I would never finish the soffits. It's been the slowest project of the remodel. Was cutting sheetrock and wood in between snow storms today. It's really cold out. Been opening the door to go in and out of the house. Can't wait to see the heating bill next month. <grin> So now it's a lot of filling in the seems for the sheetrock and sanding them out. Not my favorite job. Right up next to plumbing it is. Here's the latest photos. The room looks bigger which is the goal of the remodel.

Day 12 - Sheetrock and a present in the mail

Today was sheetrock day except I only got one 4x8 sheet and needed two. Back to the store tomorrow. We also got a present in the mail. The NEW sink came via Fedex ordered over the Internet (pic below). The Internet is a wondrous thing. We ordered the special refrigerator and corner sink. These were not cheap but you can't find the weird things we are looking for in the local stores. Well worth it.

Donna and I don't like stainless steel sinks. So we wanted to change the color and what is was made of. Going to the local stores only had stainless steel sinks. The current trend is stainless everything in the kitchen. Yuck!
